Establishing links for income diversification from underutilised crops

On August, 15th 2008, in Hanoi, Agriculture System Development and Research Centre, Vietnam Science Institute, Food Crop Research Institue organized a workshop on “to unite for income diversification from underutilised crops. Attending in the conference were many representatives from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development offices, localities like Hanoi, Hai Duong, Bac Can, Thua Thien Hue, press angencies and some international organizations.

The goals of the research program is maximizing poverty reduction effects of research strategy of recycled natural resources by introducing technology application for poverty reduction and economy growth. For this reason, the program gave out 5 topics: *

- Establishing new links with actors to change research knowledge into goods and services

- Developing cooperation and policy consultancy for research and encouraging links among local, national and international units with the same purposes

- Promoting communication and market information for improving chances of consuming agriculture products

- Buiding capacity for sustainability of the program after it ends

- Evaluating effects and sharing experiences and lessions with other actors

The project intends to apply research on “Hoa Vang” glutinous rice (Hai Duong province), cashew (Thua Thien Hue province), longan (Quoc Oai- Ha Tay province), “bo khai” vegetable (Bac Can province).
